TEDxEverest was held in May 2013 at Advanced Base Camp on the North Face of Mount Everest.

We are celebrating the 60th anniversary of Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay’s first ascent of Everest with an expedition to the North Col of Everest led by Valerie Parkinson. We will follow in the ill-fated footsteps of legendary explorers Mallory and Irvine.

Driving from Kathmandu across the Himalaya to Tibet we reach Rongbuk monastery from where we trek to Everest North Base Camp. After acclimatising we follow the famous Mallory Highway through huge pinnacles of snow and ice with our own climbing Sherpas and support team, to Advanced Base Camp at 6400 meters (21,000 feet). Here is where we will hold TEDxEverest.

After a number of further days rest and acclimatisation we will set off very early for the ascent to the North Col of Everest (7066 meters). The climb uses fixed ropes and is about a 10 to 12 hour round trip. At the North Col we are rewarded with fantastic views of North Ridge of Mount Everest, Cho Oyu and the Tibetan plateau far below.
